Hi there,

This is a great idea and I like your starters for 10...

But I should say this isn't a theme that's grabbing me personally for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it's probably in line with my lack of love for TNE but I'm with Marvin the Paranoid Android on this.  "Life's bad enough without wanting to invent more of it."

While that could be taken as a stricture against fiction in general, I've tried to keep my writing/games/thinking more positive and uplifting.  One reason I gave up with Game of Thrones.  (Marvin is actually using it in the context of lying to be strict about it.)  It's not an absolute rule, given that I was game enough to throw the aftermath of a tsunami at my players once, but it is a tendency.  (In my defence the tsunami was off stage and despite the dark setting the players' role was in rescue and rebuilding.)

Secondly, and perhaps my bigger problem, I'm just not very well up on disease and medicine.  My tiny mentions of it in Traveller writing have been very tiny.  See for example:
Skefflig's Syndrome (Act 1 Scene 3 here: http://www.freelancetraveller.com/features/advents/allinthegenes.html )
or the 'birth' scene briefly mentioned in Into the Unknown
or the cattle having hemochromatosis in Three Blind Mice (not to mention the various 'blindnesses' of the characters).

But I'm following the thread with interest and if I do come up with anything will give you a shout.  I'll look forward to seeing the theme issue.

My thanks to those who've already posted interesting rabbit holes for me to think about.
