IMO, the whole ship design would have to altered to gain J6.

That means a computer upgrade, more fuel (but drop tanks could be used for this) & anything else in the design table that factors in the jump capability of the J-drive.

If this was a salvage op then it would require a major mod just make the J-drive (with it's greater dT requirement) fit.

Afternoon from the Pacific Northwest Richard,

From the information that others put forward and Phil Pugliese finally got me to understand is that a 600 ton hull J4 drive when installed in a 400 ton hull would allow it to make a jump of 6 parsecs.

I'm trying to what has to change in the 400 ton hull to allow a 6 parsec jump.

Would the fuel requirement be determined by the J4 rating or the J6 rating?

Would the Power Plant be a PP4 or PP 6?

Would the Computer be a Model/4 or Model 6?

If the J4 rating is used would the 160 tons of fuel be enough to make J6?

If the J6 rating is used the 240 tons of fuel plus the  65 ton 600 ton hull J4 Type M drive plus a 37 ton  Power Plant exceeds the available 400 ton space with the Main Compartment components included.

Hello Richard,

Would the Drive Type code go up for being salvaged?

Hello Phil,

The question was: Can a J4 drive built for a 400 ton hull allow a 300 ton hull to make a five parsec jump?

. . . which then requires effective performance in that hull to be recalculated. If drive letter codes works this way for damage, then they should work this way for salvage/modification.
Not exactly. But the effective performance of that drive in the new [smaller] hull would need to be recalculated.
