They show up all through the "Hainish Cycle" novels and short stories. I've only read 1.5 of them -- I read and absolutely loved _The Left Hand of Darkness_ last year (my review), and am in the middle of _The Dispossessed_ now.

Yes, Ursula K LeGuin is credited with coining ansible, however they were not mentioned in the one or two books of hers that I have. I did read Orson Scott Card's Ender books, which is my only encounter with ansibles.
