Assistant Librarian (Special Collections & Archives Section) (PR0079/19-20)

Hong Kong Baptist University Library is currently seeking a highly
motivated and service-oriented professional for the position of
Assistant Librarian in the Special Collections & Archives Section.
Reporting to the University Librarian, the appointee will be responsible
for managing and enhancing all aspects of the Section, including
acquisition, processing, program planning and project management,
outreach, and donor relations. He/She will also manage and develop the
Section’s several digitization projects involving special collections
materials. Serving as a liaison to faculty, students, and outside
researchers, the appointee will also participate in the Library’s
programs in instruction and information literacy. He/She will be
required to work on Information Desk shift duties on some
evenings/weekends/public holidays.

Applicants should have a recognized professional qualification in
librarianship (MLS or equivalent), formal coursework and/or training in
special collections librarianship, and have at least three years of
experience in an academic library setting with demonstrated managerial,
supervisory and leadership experience. In-depth knowledge of archival
theory and practice, metadata for special collections, and digitization
standards is essential. He/She must have excellent interpersonal skills
and a customer-service oriented attitude, as well as the ability to
respond to users’ needs, inquiries, and concerns in a professional and
constructive manner. Strong oral and written communication skills in
English and Chinese are required. Additionally, knowledge of Putonghua
is highly desirable. The successful applicant must have the ability to
work collegially, independently and collaboratively with people within
and outside the Library.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three
years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
