Delivery of serials by the subscription agencies

We (at the Bibliothque nationale de France) are preparing new deals to
choose our serials vendors and I am thinking about asking for delivery by
the vendor. At the moment all our serials are sent by the publishers
through the post, because we thought that it would be quicker. But it
seems that many of them are lost either before they arrive at the library,
or between the library's mail departement and the serials departement (we
are not the only library's department receiving serials).
If some persons of the list have experienced this service, I would like to
hear what you think about it. In particular, is it as quick as the post
delivery, for titles published outside and inside the country where the
library is ? Some vendors propose delivery with checkin, or delivery
without checkin. In the 2nd case, by what mean do they know what they send
?
Many thanks for your help
