Montana State University - Bozeman
Title: Cataloging Librarian
Salary: FY, tenure track, assistant professor level; $33,000 minimum,
negotiable; TIAA-CREF and Blue Cross/Blue Shield
Available Date: July 1, 2000
Position Description: Entry level position as The Libraries' serials
cataloger, responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of serials
in print, electronic and micro formats in all subject areas. Will serve as
the resource person for the cataloging team concerning serials cataloging
policies and procedures and advising team on national standards for serials.
Will assist in retrospective conversion and/or other projects, as necessary.
Must be able to work with colleagues from other teams such as systems,
reference, materials processing, and copy cataloging. Participates in
training as appropriate. Reports to the Associate Dean of Libraries. The
successful candidate will be expected to meet the university's requirements
for faculty performance.
Description of MSU-Bozeman: Montana State University-Bozeman, the state's
land grant institution, is located in the beautiful Gallatin Valley in
southwestern Montana 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. The
university has an enrollment of over 11,600 and offers undergraduate degrees
in 47 fields and graduate degrees in 41 fields with an emphasis in science
and technology. The Libraries' collection numbers nearly 600,000 volumes,
one million+ microforms and is staffed by 17.33 faculty FTE, 1.87
professional FTE, and 31.37 classified FTE.
Qualifications: Required - Graduate degree from an ALA accredited program;
experience with descriptive and subject cataloging, classification, AACR2,
MARC formats, OCLC, and an integrated online system.
Preferred - An additional advanced degree; library original cataloging work
experience; knowledge of Library of Congress Subject Headings and Library of
Congress Classification; experience with SIRSI integrated online system;
academic or research library work experience.
The successful candidate will have the ability to set and adjust priorities
and accept new challenges in order to realize team and library goals and
demonstrate excellence in written and oral communication skills.
