SERIALS ACQUISITIONS ASSISTANT
DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Librarian for Serials
Acquisitions, the Serials Assistant will plan and perform complex library
duties, including receiving, claiming, processing, and dispersing of
serials materials. Interpret and input data from a variety of sources;
create and maintain online serials records. Exercise initiative and
judgment in performing bibliographic and invoice problem solving,
incorporating various databases and Web resources. Communicate extensively
with Libraries' staff, vendors, and publishers. Keep statistics, sort
incoming mail. Undertake special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work both independently, and as part of a team, within a
changing work environment. An aptitude for accurate, detail-oriented,
quantitative work is essential. Demonstrated organizational, analytical,
communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills
required. Experience with PC technology, including Windows, and solid
keyboarding skills required. Must be able to lift and carry boxes, and
load and push book carts. Previous library experience, particularly in an
academic or university setting, strongly preferred. Knowledge of
bibliographic components, serials publishing, automated systems, and at
least one foreign language preferred.
HIRING SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$22,500-$25,444; actual salary will depend on experience. Position is 35
hours per week. MIT offers a competitive benefits package, including
