ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
HEAD OF CATALOGING

DUTIES:  Manages operation of Cataloging Unit, trains, and evaluates
assistant catalog librarian and support staff.  Supervises and
participates in the bibliographic control of library materials in all
formats.  Supervises check-in and claiming of periodicals.  Proposes
goals and objectives in accordance with the library’s mission.  Develops
and interprets policies, practices and standards.  Serves as liaison
from the Cataloging Unit to other departments in the library and to the
University.  Supervises one full-time librarian and four
paraprofessionals.  Reports to University Librarian.

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited program.  Minimum of 3 years
cataloging experience in an academic library, with demonstrated
effective leadership in management positions.  Experience with serials
cataloging and/or check-in.  Knowledge of and experience with AACR2,
LCSH, LC classification, OCLC, and a library automation system. Good
verbal and written communication skills. Second master's degree
preferred.

SALARY/BENEFITS:  $31,500/12 mo.  Employer contribution to insurance and
retirement.  Choice of pension or 403(b).

CORNETTE LIBRARY: Ample workspace distinguishes newly remodeled 100,000
square foot facility housing 360,000 volumes and 650,000 government
documents.  1,850 periodical subscriptions.  Building is shared with
state-of-the-art computer lab and multimedia classroom facility.

GENERAL INFORMATION: West Texas A&M University is located 15 miles south
of Amarillo in Canyon, Texas, offering choice of small town or city
living, both inexpensive.  Near spectacular Palo Duro Canyon, subject of
a number of paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe and setting of the musical
pageant "Texas." WTAMU is home of acclaimed Harrington String Quartet.
Renowned Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on campus.  Only a few hours
drive to Santa Fe and the mountains of northern New Mexico.  University
has approximately 6,500 students, and offers 54 undergraduate and 30
graduate degree programs.
