Subject: Summery Holdings formats...
Hey all,
This issue may be more suitably addressed to cataloging but I thought I
would try serials first. I am being charged with putting in our
retrospective serial holdings into the OPAC and was looking on some
information on formats to do this. I've read some stuff on Z39.42 and other
holdings standards. Also, by looking at other OPAC's, I have found some
basic formats. It looks like there are a couple out there. To achieve
maximum consistency, I wanted to use a format that a lot of libraries are
using. We are currently using DRA as our library information system, but I
am being hit with a double whammy because we are joining MOBIUS, a statewide
academic library consortium in Missouri, in two years. The second part of
my question is, has anyone out there transferred their holdings from DRA to
Innovative Interfaces? If so, how should I put in the holdings to reduce
the number of problems when the data is transferred from DRA to III? We
have several different formats (bound, microfiche, and microfilm) and
someone suggested using different copy records for the different holdings.
I know this is a lot to swallow. That's why I hope there are some intrepid
souls out there who can help!
