Joyce,

Our vendor advised us that many customers reported a lapse (at the same
time we did) and our vendor learned that the publisher had a problem
with a
renewal load. This was resolved in July 1999 and we have been receiving
issues on schedule since then. We asked to have our subscription
extended
instead of trying to get the missed issues.

Just a brief request for those persons who subscribe to the British
periodical SPECTATOR (issn 0038-6952) - please send your response
directly
to me and not to the list.

Here's my request: have you had a lapse in your SPECTATOR subscription
although your vendor placed the order for the year (1999) and payment
was
made? Was the explanation for the lapse (which possibly lasted 2-3
months)
along the line that the publisher's office had claimed not to have
received
the original payment and was requiring a second payment? Were you
refused
the missing issues as part of your reentered subscription?

I know of at least three of us in this boat (not all using the same
vendor), and I just wanted to determine how widespread this might be.
It
would indicate to me that possibly the publisher should be made aware of
problems in the circulation office.

Thanks for sharing!
