Access to stacks (or: Compromises between open & closed stacks)
Sherry Petry 08 Sep 1999 18:29 UTC
We would like to hear from some libraries that have a system of stack
passes as a compromise between totally open and totally closed stacks.
That is, patrons can enter the stacks, but must stop at the reference desk
first to check in or get a "pass". We would like to deter theft and
mutilation without prohibiting browsing and discovery. What have your
good and bad experiences with this been?
