         Virtual Technical Reports Center

   In response to my recent posting regarding the
existence of a registry of Web sites of  professional society technical
reports I received notice from
Gloria Chawla of the University of Maryland about a
"Virtual Technical Reports Center" noted below.

   Gloria has informed me that she has and will continue to focus on
the technical reports universities, government agencies, and research
institutes for her virtual center. As it appears that
their is no  _per se_ of professional  societies and organization Web sites,
I have decided to establish a registry to complement her center and have
already started a systematic review of the society Web sites.
I hope to make a formal announcement of my registry
within the next 2-3 months.

   I wish to thank Gloria for informing me of her project and applaud her
efforts to compile such a valuable information resource.

I have started to compile a central registry of Technical
Reports Websites in my capacity as Technical Reports
Librarian at the University of Maryland.  Actually, there
are two:

The Virtual Technical Reports Center, lists reports
worldwide, except for University of Maryland at College
Park:

www.lib.umd.edu/UMCP/ENGIN/TechReports/UMDTechReports.html
covers University of Maryland at College Park

I plan to update the lists weekly.  I think this effort
becomes more and more important as more sites are placed on
the web, and fewer reports are published in print format.
Especially if/when NTIS closes!
