        I think it should be:
 Vol. 1, no. 1 (Jan. 1865)-v. 35, no. 819 (Jan. 1903) ; 2nd ser., v. 1
(Sept. 1903)-2nd ser., v. 54 (Apr. 1953) ; 3rd ser., v. 1 (Mar. 1951)-
The parallel whole numbering (used in the original series) is
recorded with the vol. numbering, as long as there is not within-v.
numbering as well. The series designation is repeated after the hyphen.
Vol. is abbreviated to v. when it is not at the beginning of the
statement.
Ideally, you would also include any within-v. numbers, (e.g. 2nd
ser., v. 1, no. 1); but with retrospective conversions, this information
is often unknown.

The CONSER Editing Guide, in the section for 362, p. 3,
has an example pretty much like yours. It shows a comma
after ser. and volume is abbreviated to v.
Example: -Dec. 1980 ; new ser., v. 1, no. 1 (Jan. 1981)-

Hope this helps,
Best regards
