ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
Serials Cataloger

Responsibilities
Performs original and copy cataloging of serials in all subjects,
languages, and formats.  Coordinates authority control for series. Keeps
current on revisions to cataloging rules and trends in cataloging
practices related to serials, updating other library staff as
appropriate. Assists in providing access to the Library's electronic
resources. Performs database updates connected with serials changes.
Serves as a liaison between Cataloging and Serials Depts., spending
equal time in each area.  Reports to head of Cataloging, in consultation
with head of Serials.

Qualifications
Required:  MLS from ALA accredited institution; experience and/or
course work in cataloging; knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, LC classification,
and MARC formats; ability to work independently and in collaboration
with others; adaptability, analytical and problem solving skills;
attention to detail; excellent oral, and written communication skills;
and a service oriented attitude.

Desired: Recent experience in an academic library in either serials or
cataloging; experience cataloging serial and/or electronic publications;
experience working with an automated  library system and a bibliographic
utility, preferably HORIZON and OCLC.

Salary and Benefits
Salary minimum $27,500 plus an excellent benefits package including
insurance, retirement, and vacation and sick leave.  This is a 12 month
professional position.

Utah State University is a land grant institution serving a student
population of 20,000.  It is situated in a valley 80 miles north of Salt
