Subject: NASIG Workshop on MARC Holdings Format
UNDERSTANDING THE MARC FORMAT FOR HOLDINGS & DISPLAY
A workshop sponsored by the California Library Association Access,
Collections and Technical Services Section (CLA ACTSS) and the North
American Serials Interest Group (NASIG)
This full-day workshop will provide an overview of using the MARC MFHD
format for recording and sharing library holdings information in coded
form. The speakers will discuss the international context for exchanging
holdings data (ANSI/NISO and MARC standards) and describe the current
state of MFHD implementation offered by library systems vendors. They
will also cover the use of specific fields/subfields to record holdings
data including record types, fixed fields, captions/patterns,
enumeration/chronology, textual holdings and item-specific detail.
Participants who have no experience with the MARC Format for Holdings and
Display will gain an understanding of issues and intended uses of the
format. Those with MFHD experience will have an opportunity to deepen
their understanding of the format at the detailed level.
