Subject: Position Announcement: Collection Development Librarian
BRIDGEWATER STATE COLLEGE
POSITION: Assistant Librarian, Maxwell Library
(MSCA Bargaining Unit)
DATE OF NOTICE: July 6, 1999
APPLICATION REVIEW DATE: Review will begin immediately and will continue
until position is filled.
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: As soon as possible.
General Statement of Duties: Responsible for the acquisition of
monographic materials as dictated by the campus' academic programs.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of the Maxwell Library.
Supervision Exercised: May supervise subordinate staff assigned to the area.
Core Duties:
1. Develop and evaluate the Maxwell Library's collection of information
resources in all formats.
2. Responsible for the development and management of Maxwell Library's
video resources.
3. Serve as liaison to the Systems Librarian in the development and
implementation of web-based products resulting from the LMS system.
4. Assess quality and physical condition of collections, determining
replacement, transfer, withdrawal or preservation of titles.
5. Evaluate and effectively administer the gift/exchange program,
including a periodical exchange program, gifts of monographic titles
and other materials as received.
6. Effectively implement the LARS binding software program and
administer the binding policies and procedures.
7. Serve as a member of the professional staff and carry out other
tasks in the Library as time and schedule permit. This may include
selected time at the reference desk, work on Library committees and
staff meetings.
8. Represent the Library on campus or intercampus committees.
9. Keep abreast and current with changes in the development and
evaluation of information resources through participation in
electronic-based discussions, review of professional literature and
attendance at professional meetings and conferences, regionally and
nationally.
Qualifications:
1. MLS from ALA-accredited library program required.
2. Strong interpersonal skills to work with faculty, students and
colleagues in a team approach required.
3. Good oral and written communication skills required.
4. Knowledge of electronic and network-based information resources and
technologies required.
5. Experience with library management systems, preferably Endeavor,
with serials or monographic control.
6. Experience in acquisitions and collection assessment preferred.
7. Working knowledge of a bibliographic utility (preferably OCLC)
desirable.
8. Working knowledge of standard selection and evaluation methods and
tools preferred.
Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.
