Subject: Question about issn's
I am not a cataloguer!
My question involves serial title changes where the old issn is continued
for a while on the new title and then finally gets changed when the
editors realize what they have done. Is there any way to tell from the
oclc record when the issn actually changed on the periodical itself?
Should an indexer (UMI for example) carry the old issn on citations until
the issn is changed on the piece, changed in the bib record, or should
everyone assume that the new issn starts with the new title and go back
and correct the interim records?
I am struggling with electronic indexes that (supposedly) link to our
holdings - and that link via the issn number.
Thanks very much for help/insight etc.
