Subject: definition
I see the word "serialist" used more and more often, and yet this
word is not defined in most dictionaries. The one definition that I
did find describes it as a noun, meaning a writer of serials or a
composer of serial music. However, it seems to have taken on a much
broader scope in its current usage, and is being applied to anyone
involved in the serials network - librarians, vendors, binders, etc.
Is this a real word? What is its origin? Did its current usage
come into being along with NASIG? What is your interpretation of the
word?
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have some ideas on
any or all of the above questions. Please respond directly to me,
and I will summarize for the "serialists" on the list.
Thanks.
