Authoritative Training Materials for Beginning Serials Catalogers
SCCTP - Basic Serials Cataloging Workshop
Under the auspices of the CONSER Program, the Serials Cataloging
Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP) is developing course materials for
serials cataloging. The first training package, Basic Serials Cataloging
Workshop, is now available through the Library of Congress Cataloging
Distribution Service.
The Basic Serials Cataloging Workshop, based on the essential serials
cataloging tools -- CONSER Cataloging Manual, CONSER Editing Guide, AACR2,
and the LC Rule Interpretations -- is an excellent introduction to the
intricacies of serials cataloging. Designed as a two-day course, the
curriculum covers original and copy cataloging of print and electronic
serials. Complete with PowerPoint presentation to assist instruction,
lecture notes and exercises, the workshop training materials are a
terrific basis for training center courses, library association workshops,
and in-house instruction. The course content and exercises are also an
excellent resource for self-study.
The Instructor Package, which includes the Instructor Manual (looseleaf,
274 pages) and Trainee Manual (looseleaf, 284 pages), is available for
$140 in North America and $145 outside North America. Additional copies
of the Trainee Manual are also available at a cost per manual of $35 in
North America and $40 outside North America.
