There are probably as many ways to create online periodicals lists as
there are people creating them. Any DBMS can do for you what you ask it
to. Take a class or two, learn the language(s), and then use your
imagination.

>>From several dBASE III+ relational databases I produce HTML-coded files
which require *NO* editing before loading on our server. A program runs
when I want it to and bibliographies are saved to disk.

If you are familiar with spreadsheets, such as Lotus123 or Excel, you can
also create an "html table" when you save the file as html. Then you do not
need to code each field, the program will do it for you. Then only minor
tidying is needed to put on the web. It actually is ready to go as a file,
but you probably would want to "pretty it up."

I put our holdings in a Lotus spreadsheet, then I saved the files as html.
That way I had my table with the periodicals, holdings, locations, and
notes already in my table when I saved as html. It is very easy manipulate
these spreadsheet files into a dat abase if you wish, just open in
Approach or Access.

Personally, I find it easier to use a spreadsheet, rather than a table in
a word processing file for updating. I can add rows and columns, or
delete, as needed, and edit what I need to. As I update portions of the
holdings, I upload to our web page peri odically. We don't check in our
holdings into this file, but rather check in periodicals into our Library
Catalog. Extra work, yes, but this is our solution. We also keep printed
copies for library use.

I'd like to learn what kinds of tools other libraries are using to
create online lists of their periodicals. If you have an address for a
website with such a listing and software you have used for making this
type of list, I'd be interested in hearing about them. Thanks very
much.
