Please forgive any duplicate cross-posting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Electronic Resources Librarian The University of Miami invites applications for an Electronic Resources Librarian. Under the direction of the Division Coordinator for Collection Resource Management, this position supervises a unit that identifies, evaluates, acquires, and coordinates web-based access to electronic products and serials, including government publications available commercially. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties: * Coordinates the processing of electronic serials, databases, and CD-ROM products. Includes coordinating the in-house processing of license agreements, arranging and scheduling electronic product trials, negotiating packages and discounts, monitoring vendor contracts, maintaining records of purchases, evaluating new and existing electronic resources, user levels, and platforms, as well as considering implications for electronic journals. * Formulates local and remote access policies and procedures for electronic resources. * Designs and implements methods for gathering usage statistics for electronic resources. * Manages communications concerning digital resources within the University and Library including selectors in the libraries, with library administrators dealing with consortia partners, and with vendors concerning digital resources. Coordinates with Library Public Relations/Communications Officer for publicity and outreach efforts. * Designs, coordinates, and implements projects to provide the University of Miami with electronic journals through serial aggregators (e.g. develop plan to acquire 1250+ electronic journals via EbscoOnline and EbscoHost, with a 500 title increase projected per year). * Plans and coordinates projects to reduce duplication of materials in multiple formats. * Provides administrative support to divisional staff; participates in performance appraisal and team building; provides leadership, training and support. Supervises one half-time FTE staff and may supervise students and interns in projects using INNOPAC, OCLC, and specialized software. Develops guidelines for effective budget allocation. * Participates in the Collection Development and the CRM Management Teams. * Convenes the Library's committee responsible for developing selection criteria and evaluation methods for electronic products, making selection recommendations, and recommending a strategic plan for ownership vs. access issues. * Develops a library team responsible for coordinating decisions on the description, indexing and abstracting, and presentation of electronic products. * Works closely with Education and Outreach Services Division to develop training programs for subject librarians and other library employees on using this new technology. * Provides reference assistance at a designated service desk for 3 hours per week. * Serves as a subject librarian/liaison for an assigned school or department, including teaching library instruction classes. * Participates in Library and University committees and professional activities. INSTITUTIONAL ENVIRONMENT: The University of Miami is a private research university with a student population of approximately 8,400 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate and professional students from every state and numerous foreign countries. The Otto G. Richter Library serves as the main library with a collection of 2 million volumes and is a selective federal depository; the Library uses the INNOVATIVE Integrated Library System and is a member of OCLC, SOLINET and ARL. The Richter Library has a staff of 34 librarians and approximately 85 support staff. Responsible for collection development and acquisitions, the Collection Resource Management Division includes 3 professionals and 11 support staff. The CRM Division manages an annual budget of more than $3.67 million and works closely with all divisions within the Library to implement new and changing electronic resources. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from ALA-accredited school and two years professional experience in technical services, collections management, public services, systems, or related area. Experience using bibliographic utilities, integrated library systems, and library materials in electronic formats. Evidence of flexibility and enjoyment of collaborative endeavors, analytical and problem solving skills, ability to work well independently and with others, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a public service orientation. FACULTY RANK: Twelve-month appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Tenure-track or non-tenure options available. SALARY: Salary minimum $32,500, commensurate with and dependent on qualifications and experience.
