Subject: Attention all publishers out there!
I'm cataloging a local publication and came across something I'd like to
share with all the publishers out there: "A Note to Librarians".
This publication has had a rough time of it and has not been able to
publish on the originally advertised schedule. After a short hiatus, they
came back and (wow!) included in the next issue detailed information
specifically, and literally, addressed to catalogers in libraries. They
included the numbering and date of the last issue published prior to the
one in hand, details of the dates when nothing was published, and reasons
for continuing the numbering on the current issue without a break. The
reason given for this last item is: "To help you in your cataloging..."
They also specify that future issues will reflect a certain type of
numbering even though the calendar year may not correspond.
This information is in a box on the same page as the masthead so is very
easy to find.
I'd love to see other publishers follow their lead. It definitely will
make the cataloging both easier and more accurate.
