Subject: Call for speakers: Role of the Prof. in Academic T.S. DG

The ALCTS Role of the Professional in Academic Technical Services
Discussion Group is seeking speakers for the 1999 ALA Annual Conference in
New Orleans.

TOPIC:  What is the role of the technical services librarian in the
development and implementation of new library services?

Is there a place for the technical services professional in the
development and implementation of new services?  What special skills and
talents might the technical services librarian bring to the process?  Has
your library recently implemented a new service?  What role did technical
services librarians play in the development and implementation of the
service?  If technical services did not contribute, why not?  What was
lost by leaving technical services professionals out of the loop?

The group will meet on Sunday, June 27, 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Speakers may
concentrate on these or other issues related to the topic.  Presentations
should be 15-20 minutes each, leaving ample time for discussion.
