Acquisitions / Serials Librarian
University of New Hampshire Library

The University of New Hampshire Library invites applications for the
position of Acquisitions / Serials Librarian to direct and manage the
ordering, receipt, binding, and fiscal control of materials wanted for
the library=92s collections, including print, audiovisual, and electronic
resources.  The position supervises a staff of 12 working in
acquisitions, "fastcat" cataloging operations, serials records
maintenance, binding, and mail services.  The Acquisitions / Serials
Librarian reports to the Head of Technical Services and works closely
with Collection Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan, implement, and evaluate the operational aspects of acquisitions
and serials units, which include the library=92s bindery prep operations
and mail services.

2. Maintain and develop the acquisitions and serials control components
of the library=92s integrated system (INNOPAC); exercise strict quality
control over order, payment, and check-in records.  Evaluate and
implement new technologies in acquisitions / serials procurement and
control.  Collaborate with systems and public service units in the
continuing development of effective access to serials; assist in the
implementation of electronic subscriptions.

3. Establish and maintain sound business relationships with book, media,
and serials vendors, and with commercial binderies.

4. Serve as the department=92s liaison to Accounts Payable, the Business
Service Center, and other library departments in respect of orders,
receipts, payments and fund accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
ALA-accredited master=92s degree.
Successful management experience in serials or acquisitions operations,
including vendor relations, preferably in an academic or research
library environment.  Demonstrated familiarity with book and serials
trade, current trends in serials control, the acquisition and management
of electronic resources.  Proven analytical and communications skills.

Preferred:
Preference will be given to those candidates holding a second advanced
degree, which is required by the Library for promotion and tenure.

This is a twelve-month tenure track position with appointment at the
rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications.
The successful candidate will be expected to meet library and university
requirements for reappointment, promotion, and tenure.  The minimum
salary is $32,000 commensurate with experience.  Review of applications
begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

The University Library has a collection of over 1.1 million volumes and
substantial serials, document, microform, audiovisual, and special
collections.  The department receives over 10,000 titles annually; it
maintains an active approval plan with Blackwell North America, and
receives about 8500 subscriptions.  The current allocation for library
materials is in excess of $3.2 million.  The library uses the INNOPAC
integrated library system for all ordering, receiving, and fund
accounting.  The University Library includes the newly renovated and
expanded Dimond  Library, four branch libraries, a storage facility; and
a staff of 75, of whom 21 are faculty.  It serves a full-time teaching
faculty of over 600 and a student body of about 12,000 undergraduate and
graduate students.

UNH is located near the New Hampshire seacoast and about a 90-minute
drive from Boston to the south and the White Mountains to the north.  It
is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant institution.  UNH faculty
are represented by the AAUP.
