Happy New Year!
I am the Periodicals Librarian for our public library which serves
about 120,000 people. Have any of you public libraries
taken advantage of offers like EBSCO's to register periodicals
on Internet terminals for the public? How do you network the
registration and password, and has it been worth the effort? I
realize this is a routine thing for academics and special libraries
but wonder if there are pitfalls for a public library. I tried
registering for Business Week on a staff terminal and now receive
e-mail regularly about upcoming issues. Our computer catalog is not
web based yet. Do libraries have to work through a subscription
agent to get registered (or at least get their clearance beforehand)
or will using the address label work just as well? I am not a
cataloger so please excuse the questions if they seem naive. Thanks.
