Blind links in 78x entries Patricia Thompson 02 Dec 1998 17:29 UTC

In our catalog, we have some serial bib records with 78x linking entries to
previous or later titles which we do not own. If the patron clicks on the
link (it's a web catalog) he is taken to the place in the title index where
that title would be. I know this is not ideal, but what are the options?
Should we change the linking entry to a note field instead? Which tag
should we change it to?

Is it common practice to check for these "blind" links? I really hesitate
to get into making a lot of local changes to serial records, because, since
they are fluid entities, we sometimes overlay our record with a more
current version of the record from OCLC.
