ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
SERIALS CATALOGER
DUTIES: Under the general direction of the Co-Team Leaders of the Serials
Cataloging Section, independently catalogs serials in all formats,
including electronic resources, in all Western European languages.
Performs successive title cataloging and other recataloging or online
maintenance for titles of a complex nature. Creates bibliographic and
authority records to both CONSER and NACO standards. Resolves complex
bibliographic problems.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS. Previous experience in
serials processing, preferably in cataloging serials. Demonstrated
problem-solving ability. Experience with network based or local automated
bibliographic systems, preferably OCLC and NOTIS. Reading knowledge of 2
non-English, Western European languages. Computer literacy, including
working knowledge of Windows and Internet applications. Good
interpersonal communication skills, oral and written. Demonstrated
ability to work effectively with culturally diverse staff, faculty, and
students. Ability to work effectively in a frequently changing
environment. Desired: Previous experience cataloging serials in a large
research library. Knowledge of AACR2r and CONSER standards.
RANK, SALARY, & LEAVE: Rank of Assistant Librarian. Final salary
dependent on years of previous relevant professional experience. (Minimum
salary - $31,000); 24 working days of vacation a year; 15 days of sick
leave a year with provisions for extended benefits.
