Subject: Placing a value on the collection

I am currently involved in conducting an inventory of the Serials
Department at the main branch of our county public library system, for
insurance purposes. As part of this process, we have to assign a value to
the items in the inventory. Herein is my dilemma: how do I assign a
value to our hardcopy journal backfiles and to our microfiche
collection? Are there any professionally recognized standards which I
can use to estimate values for these collections? We have so many
different fiche collections (ERIC Digest, PhoneFiche, SEC annual reports,
etc.) with widely varying values. And is there an average price for
backfile magazine issues?

Of course, this report is due almost immediately, so any help you may be
able to provide in a very short period of time would be greatly
appreciated!

Thank you,

Dani Lichtenberg
