I have never seen any use for it in our catalog; we routinely delete 850's to save space in our database.

Does the 850 field (Holding Institution), for use by CONSER participants, New
Serials Titles program participants, and Library of Congress (cf. Bib. Formats
and Standards) serve a useful purpose for other libraries, especially if the
local record is not contiually updated?
