Stephanie,
We bind titles that receive heavy use or those which we want to preserve
(e.g. published by the Church of Christ, with which we are affiliated).
Frequency of binding depends on frequency of publication. A weekly title
normally is bound every 3 months; quarterly publications normally once a
year. Our bindery has certain size specs too, so that determines how many
issues we place in a bound volume.
We do display a large percent of our current periodicals on browsing shelves
for the patrons to use, including our newspapers.
Currently, our periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title; bound
volumes are on the second floor, following the circulating collection and
loose titles are stored in the Serials office, along with microfiche. We
don't know when we'll catalog our periodicals but with our new automated
system and the ability to load a tape from OCLC with our holdings, it will
most likely happen within the next year or two.
Hope this helps.
