ACADEMIC PROFESSIONAL POSITION

The Cline Library at Northern Arizona University invites applications for:
 Acquisitions Librarian.  Under the direction of the Bibliographic Services
Department Head, this position participates in shared management of the
Library's $2.8 million acquisitions budget.
Consistently negotiates favorable terms in purchasing and licensing
agreements. Assists other personnel in the design and implementation of
increasingly integrated acquisitions and cataloging processes including
those used for government publications. Trains subject specialists in fund
management and orients them to current vendor practices.  May direct
selected staff, students, and interns in projects using specialized
software; INNOPAC, accounting and budgeting tools, acquisition vendor
interfaces. Participates in the Bibliographic Services Management Group,
Library Budget Committee, and the interdepartmental Electronic Resources
Selection Group.   Successfully addresses vendor performance issues raised
by library personnel having responsibilities in selection, acquisitions and
cataloging processes. Fosters communication and effective relationships
within the Library and University. In addition to active participation in
Library and University committees, serves as a subject specialist which
includes resource selection and faculty liaison responsibilities. Provides
reference assistance at a designated service desk.

Minimum Qualifications:  REQUIRED:    MLS from ALA-accredited school, two
years library acquisitions experience with responsibilities in vendor
negotiation required.  Emphasis  in negotiating prices and terms for
licensed electronic information preferred.  Knowledge of book trade,
approval programs, the Federal Depository Library Program, and serials
publication business practices. Demonstrated success in sustaining clear,
mutual understandings with vendors. Evidence of innovation in the
application of software for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting
acquisitions expenditures. Familiarity with emerging trends in libraries
and higher education.  Strong commitment to support the information needs
of distributed learners which includes increasing investments in electronic
resources and involvement in library purchasing consortiums.  Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse workplace and a
multi-cultural learning environment; evidence of flexibility and enjoyment
of collaborative endeavors.
