ACADEMIC PROFESSIONAL POSITION
The Cline Library at Northern Arizona University invites applications for:
Electronic Products and Serials Librarian. Under the direction of the
Bibliographic Services Department Head, this position supervises a unit
which acquires, catalogs, and coordinates web-based access to electronic
products and serials, including government publications. In addition to
participating in the Bibliographic Services Management Group, supervises
four FTE staff and may supervise students and interns in projects using
INNOPAC, OCLC, and specialized software. Convenes the Library's Electronic
Access Working Group, an inter-departmental body responsible for
coordinating decisions on the description, indexing, and presentation of
newly acquired electronic products. Leads the Working Group in formulating
policies and practices that ensure timely and successful access for
distributed learners. Fosters communication and effective relationships
within the Library and University. In addition to active participation in
Library and University committees, serves as a subject specialist which
includes resource selection and faculty liaison responsibilities. Provides
reference assistance at a designated service desk.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from ALA-accredited school, two years original
cataloging experience with emphasis on electronic resources and/or serials
cataloging required. Supervisory and serials acquisitions experience
preferred. Experience with AACR2R, LCSH, LC, SUDOCS classification
schedules, MARC formats, integrated library systems, and major cataloging
utilities. Demonstrated interest in the description, indexing, and
presentation of information for a web-based user environment. Evidence of
innovation in the application of cataloging skills to enhances public
access. Familiarity with emerging trends in libraries, higher education,
and distance education. Strong commitment to improving library access for
distributed learners and to making bibliographic and metadata decisions
that support increasing investments in electronic information. Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse workplace and a
multi-cultural learning environment; evidence of flexibility and enjoyment
of collaborative endeavors.
