Library Position:  Head, Materials Ordering and Receiving

Section Responsibilities: Reports to the Director of Technical Services.
Responsible for a section that combines monograph ordering, serial
ordering, electronic resources ordering, check-in and claiming functions,
and binding/preservation.  The Head will be responsible for accounting
operations for the materials budget (currently $3.3 million with 7,600
serial subscriptions); financial and serials database records management,
management reports, and vendor evaluation and contacts.  Duties include
hands-on involvement with daily work routines and supervision of 11
support personnel.  The Head will be responsible for section policies and
procedures, work closely with the Collection Development Coordinating
Team, bibliographers and serials cataloger, and serve on the Technical Services
Management Team.

Qualifications: Required: MLS from an ALA accredited program or
international equivalent; at least three years increasingly responsible,
relevant professional experience in an academic library with a substantial
materials budget ($500,000+) and an automated system.  Knowledge of the
current book and serial trade, and an understanding of
binding/preservation issues. Evidence of strong supervisory experience,
professional involvement and research activity; excellent oral, written,
and interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to work effectively with
faculty, staff, and students. Ability to work independently and
cooperatively in a changing environment, and a willingness to accept new
responsibilities.  Professional growth and service in keeping with
university standards for promotion and tenure is expected.  Preferred:
Experience supervising a joint Acquisitions/Serials Section; familiarity with
the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. system, and knowledge of emerging
technologies associated with Web-based systems and electronic resources.

Salary Range: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and
background. Faculty status, attractive benefits package, including 24 days
annual leave, retirement options, health insurance, and no state income
tax.

The setting: The UNLV Libraries are comprised of the main Dickinson
Library, the Curriculum Materials Library, and the Architecture Studies
Library.  Collections include over 800,000 volumes and 7,500 serial
subscriptions, plus substantial media collections, government documents
and more than 1.5 million microforms.  The annual materials budget is
approximately $3.5 million.  Construction began in early 1998 on the new,
300,000 square foot, $51 million Lied Library that will include an
Information Commons and a fully wired four-classroom Collaborative
Learning Center.  UNLV is Nevada's largest comprehensive,
