POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
SERIALS LIBRARIAN, Digital Emphasis

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is a major metropolitan
doctoral university serving over 23,000 students. The campus is
located on Milwaukee*s tree-shaded residential east side bordering
Lake Michigan. The Golda Meir Library is a modern, centralized
library housing over 4.6 million bibliographical items including the
1 million item American Geographical Society Collection. The
materials budget exceeds $2.5 million/year. The Library*s technical
environment consists of a complex network of Windows-based
workstations in a mixed Novell 3.12/4.11 network, with terminal and PC
workstation access to a remote NOTIS library automation system. The
University of Wisconsin System is in the process of selecting a new
integrated library system , and Library will be replacing NOTIS with a
locally-administered ILS when this process is completed.
RESPONSIBILITIES: under the direction of the Head, Serials Department,
manages and processes electronic serials including coordinating the
in-house processing of license agreements, arranging and scheduling
electronic product trials, cataloging, and URL management. Assist
with acquisitions activities for serials in various formats including
checking in the more problematic CD-ROM*s, and participating in
electronic invoice payments, fiscal year rollover activities, and
serials cancellation projects.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS/MLIS, knowledge of
current automated library systems, e.g. NOTIS; experience with
automated bibliographic utilities, e.g. OCLC; working knowledge of
AACR2 rules, LC classification, and USMARC formats; proven analytical
and problem solving skills, ability to work well independently and
with others; and strong interpersonal communication skills.
Desired: Experience in a research or academic library in one of the
following areas: serials, cataloging or acquisitions; experience with
library materials in electronic formats; knowledge of a foreign
language and National Serials Cataloging Standards (CONSER).
SALARY: Associate Academic Librarian (salary range $30,636 -$38,296)
depending on qualifications and experience.

appointment leading to indefinite appointment. Generous vacation and
