        POSITION DESCRIPTION

        University of Georgia Law Library

POSITION:       Acquisitions/Serials Law Librarian

REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS: The Acquisitions/Serials Law
Librarian reports to the Associate Director of the Law Library, who in
turn reports to the Director.  The Acquisitions/Serials Law Librarian
supervises one Library Associate I, one Library Assistant III, two
Library Assistant II's, and several student assistants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

        Direct and supervise ordering, receipt, check-in, filing,
binding, and initial shelving of all new serials;

        Develop departmental policies and procedures relating to
ordering, serials management, U. S. Government documents management,
looseleaf filing, and binding;

        Train staff in effective and efficient use of the automated
library system;

        Work closely with the Associate Director and the Bookkeeper to
monitor acquisitions spending;

        Provide evening and weekend reference service in rotation with
the eight other librarians on the staff;

        Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

        Required: MLS from ALA accredited library school; at least
three years' relevant experience in a professional capacity in a
library; experience with or training on automated library systems,
preferably Innovative Interfaces; cooperative, service-minded attitude.
Desirable: familiarity with legal materials; experience in an academic
law library; supervisory experience.

BENEFITS:

        Standard benefits package includes life, health, and disability
insurance; mandatory participation in the state or optional retirement
system; 21 days annual leave; and 12 paid holidays.  Salary minimum:
$32,000.  Adjustments may be made commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

ABOUT THE LAW LIBRARY:

        The University of Georgia Law Library is in Athens, a small
city about 60 miles east of Atlanta.  It has a rich, old collection
numbering more than 460,000 volumes and volume equivalents and strives
to be state-of-the-art in use of library and information technology.
The staff of nine librarians, three Network Services Specialists, and
11 classified personnel serve a student body of approximately 650 JD
and LLM students and a law faculty of approximately 40 members.  The
Law Library provides all computing services to the law school, in
addition to delivering traditional library services.  More information
