BIBLIOGRAPHIC CONTROL LIBRARIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Coordinate bibliographic control functions in an
integrated technical services unit; review, revise, and document cataloging
policies and procedures; train and serve as a resource for technical
services staff working with copy and original cataloging in all formats;
perform database maintenance; perform original cataloging for archival
collections, Washington state documents, EWU theses, and other materials;
oversee participation in OCLC Enhance and TOC programs; consult with
representatives of other union-catalog institutions in matters of standards
and practices, implementation of new system features, etc.; contribute to
unit and division management and policy formulation; and participate in
Technical Services performance measurement.

REPORT TO:  Head of Collections Services Division.  The Division includes
Technical Services Unit (2 librarians, 8 � classified staff and 1
administrative staff) and Circulation Unit.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION:  Required:  ALA/MLS; minimum of two years
professional experience in an academic or research library, primarily in
cataloging and bibliographic control activities; experience with AACR2,
MARC, LCSH, and LCCS; familiarity with a major bibliographic utility,
integrated local library systems, and technical services workflows;
demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of team;
demonstrated effective written and oral communication, training, planning,
and problem-solving skills.  Must provide proof of eligibility to work in
the United States pursuant to U.S. Immigration Laws.  Desired:  Experience
with OCLC; knowledge of technical services modules of Innovative Interfaces
library system.

SALARY/APPOINTMENT:  Ten-month, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment, with
possible renewal for a second year.  Salary $35,000 annually.  TIAA/CREF
retirement program; comprehensive medical insurance; 20 days vacation and
established holidays; generous sick leave; assistance with moving expenses;
no state or local income taxes.
