We have a separate storage area in our Libraries.  Material is shelved in
call number order (all our periodicals are classified).  We use NOTIS LMS
too.  There is a separate location code for storage, and we open up a new
copy statement for the storage location, relink any item records to that
copy and create a MHLD (Holdings record).

In many cases, a serial run is broken into 2 locations, the storage area
for older years, and the regular stacks for current volumes.  Even titles
on standing order have backruns in storage.

My advice is to treat the storage material as much like your regular
collection as possible.  It will save work down the line.
