Subject: Software recommendations?

As the repository and distribution center for the publications of several
associations, we have back issues of the proceedings of their meetings,
journals, magazines and newsletters, all of which contain articles on
subjects of current interest to members and non-members.
Unfortunately, none of this in indexed. Our office staff has been
directed to investigate indexing the lot, so that we can bring up copies
of articles by subject author or date. Does anyone have
recommendations on software to do this? Our holdings are not as
extensive as a full library would have, but there are a variety of
publications which would be included, and it would greatly simplify
the task to have some fairly simple, easy to use software (and
inexpensive would be nice too, while we're asking). I understand they
are planning to install Microsoft Access on our Windows based
computers too, so a package which works with that might be an
advantage.
