Subject: Evaluating Back Issue Collection
We are a small engineering library and our company will be moving. As part
of our move we are looking at reducing our small (we have 50 titles)
selection of back issues. I am new to handling serials and am hoping you
will be able to provide some help as to what guidelines I might use.
Primarily I am considering using the availability of the same journals
located at a large nearby university as a guide to cut those journals since
requests could be filled through document delivery We have however, a
fairly complete collection of ASCE titles (a number of titles and long
period of coverage). I am wondering if those are valuable in and of
themselves and worth keeping. Also, how do I handle people/departments who
are attached to the idea of having these journals available onsite? Any
assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
