Subject: copyright and defunct serials
I am not a member of this list, so please reply to me directly.
We have a faculty member who needs to know who holds the copyright to the
now-ceased "Saturday Review" (stopped publication in 1986). He is editing
a book on the interviews of E.L. Doctorow and wants to include one from a
1980 issue of the above magazine. He does know that he may have to go to
Doctorow to get permission, but he would also like to know if the
copyright to that inteview could be (is) held by anyone else.
And in general, what does happen to copyright of ceased serials,
particularly when the publishing firm goes out of business? Who would one
contact?
Thanks for your help.
