Southern Ohio Chapter of ASIS: Metadata Workshop Elna Saxton 23 Jun 1998 19:10 UTC

The Southern Ohio Chapter of the American
Society for Information Science presents:

A Professional Development Workshop:
Metadata Tutorial with Jane Greenberg
of the School of Information Sciences
 at the University of Pittsburgh.

If you are a cataloger, archivist, webmaster, or facilitator of
resource discovery in the networked environment, learn about the
rapidly expanding arena of metadata standards and be introduced
to Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and three of
the more popular evolving metadata architectures that support
resource discovery in the networked environment: the Dublin Core
(DC), the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) header, and the Encoded
Archival Description (EAD) standard. Participate in small-group
exercises that focus on DC.

Jane Greenberg is a Teaching Fellow and a doctoral candidate at the School
of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. She teaches in the
area of information organization/retrieval and metadata, and is currently
working on a project that involves the GEMs metadata standard for
educational resources. Prior to arriving in Pittsburgh, she worked as the
Coordinator of Special Collections Cataloging at the Schomburg Center for
Research in Black Culture, a Research Division of the New York Public
Library. She has also worked at Columbia University, New York University,
New York Public Library Archives and New York Public Library for the
Performing Arts, New York Botanical Garden, and Bank Street College of
Education. Her dissertation research is on semantic relationships and
relevance during the query expansion process.
