Subject: Silence of the Vendors (my opinion)

I've observed (at conferences, but it probably would apply to this list as
well) that when vendors do speak out about issues of importance to us all,
they leave themselves open to attacks of crass commercialism.  Although I've
occasionally sat through presentations that turned out to be advertisements,
generally I've learned a lot by listening to what various vendors have to
say.  Maybe if we could all agree not to jump all over them if they do speak
out, the vendors would be more willing to do so.
