I am less concerned about how many issues you publish in a volume than I am
about a change. Most
changes in issues per volume are not clearly indicated to the subscribing
libraries, and can really create
some problems. So which ever you decide, please make it clear to those of
us responsible for maintaining
subscriptions. Thanks!

'often wrong, but never in doubt' is my motto...and on that note, I would
vote for one vol/year.

I don't understand the editor's rationale for changing to 2/year.

I think this would be an interesting discussion, particularly having a
publisher in on it.

I find this question quite interesting, why does the editor want to make
this change? It doesn't seem to add anything to the publication--same
number of issues and presumably the same number of pages.

However, going from one volume of 12 issues to two volumes of 6 issues is
not the biggest headache we serials acquisitions folks have ever
encountered. Our library binds based on thickness, so if the 12 issues
are 8 inches thick, we'd bind in 4 parts.

What would be really troublesome to all of us is if the pricing changed
from a yearly charge to a per volume charge (as some publishers bill).
Then we'd be paying twice as much for the same amount of material which
would definitely cause a lot of consternation in library land.

Good luck with your decision, and if you do change numbering be sure to
let the subscription agents and libraries know about it.
