POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LIBRARIES
COORDINATOR, SERIALS PROCESSING
Responsibilities: The primary responsibility is to manage the activities of
the Serials Processing Unit consisting of six support staff. The Unit is
responsible for serials check-in and claiming, contract binding, limited
in-house binding and repair, holdings maintenance, and serials inventory.
This position reports to the Head of the Serials Department, which also
includes serial ordering and financial services. This position will
participate in planning, setting goals and objectives, identifying and
resolving problems, and assessing the productivity of staff and operations
within the Serials Department.
Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and
experience with serials operations and automated serials systems required.
Supervisory experience and knowledge of the Innovative Interfaces system
strongly preferred. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of
staff. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and oral/written
communications skills. Ability to work well under pressure, and to
set/attain goals effectively.
Salary: $31,000. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement
programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available;
released time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income
tax.
Library Information: The Libraries are a member of the Association of
Research Libraries, hold over 1.8 million volumes, with a current materials
budget of $4.2 million. Total staff includes 46 professionals and 170
