Saginaw Valley State University, a dynamic and growing 4 year public
university of 7500 students located in Mid-Midchigan, invites
applications for the position of Catalog Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for the management of
cataloging and database maintenance. Oversees the daily operations of the
cataloging unit; responsible for original and complex cataloging of all
library materials in all formats; responsible for authority work in
Innopac environment.
DUTIES INCLUDE: Participation in the development of department goals,
policies and procedures, implementation of OCLC and Innopac
enhancements. Leads in providing bibliographic access to electronic
resources. Provides department representation and supervision in the
absence of the department head. Participates in collection development,
some reference desk and bibliographic instruction duties can be expected.
This position supervises 1.5 FTE and reports to the Head of Technical
Services and Systems.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required MLS from an ALA accredited library science
program; second master's degree preferred; knowledge and ability to apply
AACR2, LCSH, LC classification, MARC formats, authority and bibliographic
control principles; knowledge of OCLC (experience with III is desirable);
excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
SALARY/BENEFITS: Minimum $35,000. Excellent benefits including
vacation, sick leave and TIAA/CREF retirement.
