Job announcement - Catalog librarian (Georgia Institute of Technology)

CATALOG LIBRARIAN-The Georgia Tech Library and Information Center seeks a
creative, customer-oriented catalog librarian to provide cataloging in all
formats, including electronic resources, in an online environment.  This
position will participate in significant metadata projects using EAD,
Dublin Core, etc. as part of the Library's ongoing virtual library
initiative.

The successful applicant will be flexible and self-motivated with a strong
interest in developing and implementing innovative virtual library
projects, including metadata initiatives, web page design and imaging.

Responsibilities:  This position reports to the Head of the Information
Control and Management Department, which includes two other professional
librarians and eight paraprofessional staff. In addition to providing
cataloging in various formats, participates in virtual library initiatives
and must be eager to learn emerging cataloging standards and multimedia
virtual library technology.  Participates actively in professional and
scholarly activities including library, university and professional
committees, research and publication.

Qualifications:

Required:  Accredited MLS; a minimum of three years post-MLS cataloging
experience in an academic or special library utilizing current cataloging
rules and USMARC formats.  Experience with a integraged library system and
a national bibliographic utility.  Cataloging of electronic resources in
an online environment. Knowledge of HTML.  Excellent oral and written
communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to participate
successfully in a variety of cataloging and virtual library projects.
Considerable ability to work independently and in teams.  US citizenship
or permanent residency required.

Desired:  Knowledge of SGML and emerging metadata standards.
