CATALOGING MANAGER
Elmer E. Rasmuson Library
Bibliographic Access Management
University of Alaska Fairbanks

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Regular, Full-time, Exempt

SALARY:  $44,657.60 Annually (12 months)

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Manage and coordinate the activities of monographs and
periodicals/serials classified staff.  This position will report to the
head of the Bibliographic Access Management (BAM) department.  BAM is
responsible for acquisition of library materials, processing of materials,
and copy and original cataloging.  This position will: 1) be responsible
for hiring, supervision, professional development and evaluation of
classified employees; 2) organize and manage the workflow in BAM; 3)
review and develop policies and procedures for cataloging and processing;
4) be responsible for training staff in the theory and practice of
original and copy cataloging; 5) oversee the quality of original and copy
cataloging records produced in house as well as through outsourced
cataloging;  6) stay current with national and international professional
and technological developments relevant to cataloging;  7) promote
effective change and innovation in an automated environment; and, 8)
provide effective reference service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  MLS, or equivalent, in library or information
science from an ALA-accredited, or equivalent foreign-accredited, program.
The successful candidate must have: demonstrated cataloging experience
with monographs and serials in an academic library; strong supervisory,
management, training, and problem-solving skills in a technical services
environment; experience with a major bibliographic utility and automated
library system; knowledge of and experience with AACR2, USMARC
bibliographic and authority formats, LCSH, and LC classification;
knowledge of current trends in cataloging, technical services, and library
automation; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated
ability to provide reference service to a wide variety of library users;
and evidence of commitment to user needs.
