Dana, I think a lot of us have gotten offers from dealers who participate
in Backserv. I have gotten queries from PSC. We as librarians and staff
here are not authorized to sell anything to anyone. Our Friends of the
Library group, however, hold book sales and the like on our behalf. What
I have done is ship the materials to the dealer and ask that the checks be
made out to the Friends of the Library. PSC has asked me for materials,
but have not offered to pay for them. The basic rub for me in working
with dealers is that we get back such a miniscule amount relative to the
labor I have to put into it, that it isn't worth it. I certainly don't
have time available to donate to dealers. My only satisfaction when they
do offer some money or when I send things to Backservers is that it is
keeping the stuff out of landfills -- and someone might actually use it
sometime.
