American Library Association Midwinter Conference
New Orleans, Louisiana
Computer Files Discussion Group Small Group Discussion
Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998
New Orleans Convention Center, Rm. 90
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
12:30 p.m - 1:00 p.m business meeting
TOPIC: Open forum for discussion on matters pertaining to
Electronic resources. While participants are encouraged to bring up a
topic or problem for the group to discuss, we will introduce a general
topic of discussion: physical access to internet resources.
How are libraries handling locally produced websites? Whether
it is the latest research and databases from a university, or
community pages that supersede the vertical file in the town
library, the need for access is growing. We know that cataloging
the internet provides intellectual access, but what methods do
libraries use to provide physical access to these virtual objects?
How are libraries getting involved in creating access tools(digitizing,
enhancing and mounting databases, collaborating on projects ...)
Members from all types of libraries, consortiums and projects are
encouraged to attend.
