POSITION: Coordinator of Collection and Access Services (CAS)
Occidental College Library is seeking a forward-looking, creative and
experienced leader to serve as coordinator of Collections and Access
Services (CAS), and to take a major leadership role in the direction and
coordination of the Library systems functions. The division consists of
Acquisitions, Cataloging, Document Delivery, Circulation/Reserves, and
Systems. Under the general direction of the College Librarian, the
Coordinator is responsible for the leadership and management of all the
Division operations, including budgeting, as well as planning,
development and implementation of policies, service objectives and
procedures. The Coordinator will be a consensus-builder in a team
environment, and be able to articulate a vision for the Collection and
Access Services in harmony with the mission and goals of the Campus and
the Library. The successful candidate will also explore new ideas,
monitor national trends, and advance and integrate both electronic
technologies and traditional resources in support of the Library's
service goals.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
ALA accredited MLS. At least three years of increasingly responsible
experience directly related to the responsibilities of the position.
Proven success in long range planning and policy making. Possession of
strong leadership, managerial and organizational skills. Experience with
budgeting, staff supervision and evaluation techniques. Must have strong
understanding of and experience with outsourcing and contract
negotiating. Knowledge and experience with integrated library systems,
bibliographic databases and other on-line resources. Experience with
Innovative Interfaces Incorp. system highly desirable. Solid working
knowledge of cataloging principles, practices and resources including
original cataloging, authority control, related database management work
and problem solving. Knowledge and experience of at least one other
(CAS) Division function is required. Strong service orientation,
superior interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to adapt
and work well with all levels of staff and library users in a challenging
and rapidly changing work environment.
